2022 Audi Q5 Wheel Interchange
2022 Audi Q5 Wheel Fitment Guide
You want wheels that fit safely and drive right the first time. Here is the challenge. The Q5 came with multiple factory wheel and tire packages. Our data below lists a 19 inch rim with a 17 inch tire size. That mismatch signals trim variation, not a mistake on your part. We will sort the confusion and use the on-page calculator to validate every change before you buy.
Goal
Select and validate wheels and tires for a 2022 Audi Q5 within safe fitment limits. Use the calculator to compare a donor setup against your vehicle and confirm clearance, diameter, and hardware needs.
Prerequisites
- Vehicle info: VIN or trim, brake package if known.
- Factory reference: door-jamb tire label and owner’s manual.
- OEM specs we have for 2022 Q5 (partial):
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Bolt pattern | 5x112 |
| Center bore | 66.5 mm |
| Thread size | M14 x 1.5 |
| Rim diameter | 19 in |
| Rim width | 8.0 in |
| Wheel offset | ET35 mm |
| Backspacing | 5.38 in |
| Tire size sample | 235/65R17 |
Assumption note: the tire size shown does not match the 19 inch rim. Tire sizes vary by trim and package. Confirm your actual door-jamb tire size and wheel size before planning.
- Tools recommended:
- 1/2 inch drive torque wrench
- Digital caliper
- 66.5 mm hub-centric rings if using wheels with larger bores
- M14x1.5 lug bolts matched to your wheel’s seat style and length
Step by step
1) Confirm your OEM baseline
Check the driver door-jamb label for tire size and load index. Cross-check your wheel diameter cast into the inside of the rim. If your values differ from the table, use your values. That becomes your baseline.
2) Set up the calculator correctly
- Installed on (your vehicle): enter your confirmed Q5 wheel and tire sizes.
- Wheels from (donor vehicle) or Custom: enter the candidate rim diameter, width, and offset. Add the candidate tire section width and aspect ratio.
- Changing rim diameter updates tire diameter in the comparison view. Watch the overall diameter and poke/inner clearance readouts.
3) Respect the bolt pattern and hub
- Bolt pattern must be 5x112.
- Center bore must be 66.5 mm or larger. Larger bores need 66.5 rings. Smaller bores will not fit the hub.
- Thread size is M14x1.5. Use hardware that matches the wheel’s seat style and required length.
4) Offset planning
Your known reference is ET35 with 8.0 inch width. Start near that. Small changes are easier to validate.
- More positive offset pulls the wheel inward. This can reduce fender risk but may contact the strut or upright.
- Less positive offset pushes the wheel outward. This can clear the strut but increases fender and liner risk.
- Use the calculator to compare inner clearance and outer poke against your baseline before buying.
5) Diameter and brake clearance
Wheel diameter must clear your brake package. Some trims need larger wheels. If your door label shows 19 inch tires, plan around 19 inch wheels or larger unless you can verify 18 or 17 inch brake clearance with a test fit. Do not assume.
6) Tire sizing
- Keep overall diameter close to your OEM baseline. A small variance, often within about 3 percent, is commonly recommended.
- Use the calculator to see diameter difference and the speedometer variance estimate.
- Match load index to the door label or higher. This protects handling and braking under load.
7) Hardware and hub-centricity
- Use hub-centric rings when wheel bores are larger than 66.5 mm. This reduces vibration.
- Confirm lug bolt seat type with the wheel manufacturer. Audi OE typically uses bolts, not nuts. Length must engage sufficient threads without bottoming.
8) Test fit procedure
- Clean the hub face and center pilot. Remove rust lips.
- Install one front wheel with the correct ring and bolts finger tight. Spin by hand and check caliper clearance. Many installers aim for 3 mm or more all around the caliper.
- Turn lock-to-lock while raised, then compress the suspension slightly and recheck clearances.
- Torque in a star pattern to the OEM spec from your manual. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles.
Validation
- Calculator shows inner clearance change versus baseline is within safe limits for your strut, spring perch, and liner.
- Outer poke compared to baseline does not protrude beyond the fender trim.
- Overall tire diameter stays within your chosen variance band and maintains ABS and AWD behavior.
- Backspacing remains compatible with your brake caliper envelope. Your baseline is 5.38 inches.
- Road test is stable with no vibration, rubbing, or steering kickback.
Troubleshooting
- Vibration at highway speed: confirm hub-centric rings are installed and seated. Road-force balance the tires. Check wheel runout with a dial indicator.
- Rubbing on turns or bumps: review offset and section width in the calculator. Reduce width or increase positive offset within reason. Recheck liner clips and fasteners before modifying anything.
- Wheel will not seat: measure center bore. It must be 66.5 mm or larger with rings. Clean the hub face and remove any corrosion ridge.
- Warning lights after install: verify TPMS
